Dr. Birgit Pianosi is an Associate Professor and the past chair of the Gerontology Department at Huntington/Laurentian University (2006-2014). She holds a Ph.D. in Psycho-Gerontology from Germany and has completed two M.A. programs (in Human Development and in Psycho-Gerontology). She is a Credentialed Professional Gerontologist (C.P.G.) with the National Association for Professional Gerontologists and a certified coach for Gentle Persuasive Approaches in Dementia Care.
Birgit is an executive board member of the Seniors Health Knowledge Network (SHKN), the Laurentian Research Institute for Aging (LRIA), co-chair of Behavioural Supports Ontario’s (BSO’s) Knowledge Translation & Communications Advisory Board, and a member of the Age-Friendly Community Task Force at City of Greater Sudbury.
Ms. Pianosi is the Chair of the Board of the Sudbury German Language School.
Birgit was born and raised in East Germany. She values her family, is married and has two teenage boys, who keep her busy at home. She enjoys taking care of her horse Fanny. She loves traveling and spends much of her spare time with her family in Germany and Italy.
